DUE SOUTH

An unfailingly polite and unfailingly stubborn Canadian Mountie and two Chicago cops named Ray. The possibilities are endless. Most of the stuff here is Fraser/Kowalski, though, because that's what most of the fic in this fandom is. I'm still watching and reading DS after over a year, so it stands to reason that this page will be updated in the future.

American Way by Resonant. Kowalski teaches Fraser to be an American. Awesome characterization of Fraser, and a nice representation of the rest of the cast, and yes, the hot hot smut. Which goes without saying.

Away by Te. This is a Christmas story, but one that I actually do read all year round because dude. HAPPY Te story. SWEET Te story. An angstless F/K fic is like a chocolate moose--you just don't see it very often.

Better Than Ice Cream by Hth. Frannie/Irene Zuko. I almost like this more for the characterizations of the teenage Vecchios and Zukos more than for the smut, but yes, it does have both.

Blueprint by Journey. It's possible that this story is just a tad too sappy to be in character, but I love it anyway. RayK visits Fraser in Canada after Call of the Wild, and large amounts of fluffiness and drawn-out UST ensue.

Broadway Hotel by Resonant. An incredibly painful post-CotW story about RayK and just what he is with and without Fraser. Don't worry, the ending is happy.

Bump in the Night by Barb G. I love stories that explore the more fantastical side of due South. In this one, Fraser is haunted by Muldoon's ghost, who turns a lot of the methods employed by Fraser's father to much more scary ends.

Enduring Distance by Speranza. The first of many (actually, only three, because I have a rule about that). Okay, so there were good parts of Call of the Wild. Like, all the V/F/K interaction, and the quest ending, and Fraser singing Northwest Passage (one of my favorite songs since I was a little girl). But the rest of it was kind of twisty head-hurting crack that didn't really resolve anything, unlike this story. One of my favorite things about Speranza is that she writes great RayV, and great Stella, and even Thatcher redeems herself in the end. There's a lot of sad stuff in there, too, but by the end I really feel like everything is exactly the way it should be.

Fall by Kaneko. I like Fraser angst. Well, who doesn't? Granted, this story isn't that bad on the scale of due South pain, since it only involves unrequited love (not really--what do you take me for?) and not, say, dead relatives or Victoria.

First Wives Club by Stormy. due South and The Sentinel work very well for crossovers, though in this one none of the characters interact at all except for Stella and Caroline--the ex-wives. Hee.

Head Case by Pares. I love stories in which RayK meets Bob Fraser, and this one is very funny. And Fraser practices phrenology.

Heavy Bag by Kat Allison. Kat apparently likes to make people cry, and also make people be incredibly jealous of her writing talent. This is a cool story for many reasons: it gives Ray some background, goes deeper into the race/class issues in Mountie & Soul, and also manages to be one of those stories about homophobia that doesn't feel cliched or contrived in any way. I'm in awe.

How Ray Got His Groove Back by Bone and Aristide. I don't know what it is about the combinaton of these authors that makes such incredible hotness, but there it is. Mmmmmm.

Juggling Act by Speranza. Yep, another one. This is one of the funniest things I've read in any fandom, ever. Speranza has said that she loves to make RayK mad in her stories, and the madder he gets, the funnier he is--something I totally agree with. And not only is this a story where Fraser and Ray join the circus--it's actually got an underlying depth brought out by the comedy.

Line of Sight by Kalena. Fraser/Smithbauer! The Blue Line is one of my favorite episodes, because I love it when we see Fraser acting something like himself. This story is just a smutty retelling of that episode, so it pretty much rocks.

Mr. In-Between by Pares. Eight stories about Ray Vecchio and his relationships (not necessarily sexual) with Fraser, Frannie, Stella, Angela, Kowalski, and my personal favorite, kicking the crap out of Guy Rankin. It's sick that I find that so hot, right? Right. Well, RayV *is* hot, and it's nice to see him appreciated in fandom a little.

P.S. by Tara. Fraser and Ray write letters to each other after Call of the Wild, and drive each other nuts. There are a few dS stories about the sexiness of just making out, and this is one of them. Mmmm.

Pas de Deux by Sihaya Black. For some reason, dS is a fandom chock-full of bizarre AUs. And I am that freak who loves every single one of them. This one features RayK as a dance instructor, and Fraser as one of his pupils. There's also good RayV and Victoria.

Prolix by Dira Sudis. Dira's stories always have some weird element that makes me love them (except the one about the dead puppies--because, just no). And stories about dictionaries are sexy. You know they are.

Relax by Dira Sudis. And another one, set during and after "Seeing is Believing," which explains the bizarre "abducted by aliens" line from that episode, and features Fraser doing something very, very wrong, which is always enjoyable.

Schisms by Rushlight. An incredibly creepy case story that ties in with something from Fraser's past. And the plot actually is just as important as the relationship, which is always a novelty.

Score by Te. A patching-up story that's mostly about the way Ray and Fraser tease each other. Hee.

Secrets by Cara Chapel. Fraser/Vecchio, in which Vecchio has been turned into a woman by gypsies. Not your typical genderswap story, but hot and sweet.

Takeoff by Sihaya Black. I'm a sucker for post-COTW stories where Fraser and Kowalski don't know what do do with themselves. This one boils it down to just the goodbye scene, and it's so incredibly awwwww.

The Course by Bone and Aristide. Another scorching hot story by these two, this one set after Call of the Wild, with Ray undercover on a new assignment.

The Elevator Diaries by China Shop. Fraser can't seem to stop *breathing.*

The Teeth of the Hydra by Resonant. The last Res story, I promise, and my favorite back story for Kowalski ever, about punk and glam and tatoos and even Greek mythology! Yay.

Un-American by Laura J. A funny, sweet story about what it means for Kowalski to be queer.

With Six You Get Eggroll by Speranza. Okay, so, I *hate* kidfic. Either it's unnecessarily cutesy or the characters are girlified or the author just can't write kids well--which, hey, I can't either, so I don't blame them. But this is a story in which all the endings of COTW get switched and Fraser and Kowalski end up with six adopted kids. Then Stella and Vecchio, on their honeymoon in the Northwest Territories, come for a visit and hilarity ensues. This is one of those stories I read when I'm feeling really, really down, because it never fails to make me happy again.

Hawks and Hands by Dira. The ultimate hockey AU (words you can only utter in a fandom in which there is more than *one* hockey AU)--Fraser is a hockey player who can't get along with his team, Kowalski gets along too well with *everyone* on the team, Frannie is a sports reporter, Welch is a coach, Thatcher sings the national anthem, and Vecchio is the cop who helps Fraser find the killers of his father. There are a few characters who are dead when the story opens, but it's still worth reading, I promise.

Crossed Wires by Lynnmonster. Ray/Ray. Vecchio thinks Kowalski is after his little sister.

Faster, Diefenbaker! Mush! Mush! by Yahtzee. Ray and Ray are after Fraser, in more ways than one, and a classically wacky due South chase ensues. And Vecchio and Kowalski have sex.

Stripped by Sprat. Ray/Ray. Vecchio doesn't like Kowalski at *all.* But the neo-Nazis do!

Reset by Lamardeuse. Kowalski's in love with Fraser who's in love with Vecchio, who manages to avoid drama quite nicely.
